THE STORY
An unforgettable era of lakefront hospitality began in 1922, when the original “New” Chase Hotel opened its doors on Leech Lake. According to past stories, the “New” Chase Hotel opened costing a reported $150,000.00. Thus, making it the most luxurious and expensive hotel north of Little Falls at the time. What was not known then is how the next 86 years would unfold in a way that now is defined as a “Walker Tradition.” Although ownership has changed and the building remodeled, the traditional stories of families and friends coming together have remained the same. Over the years, a number of hardships plagued the Chase. June 29, 1997 was the most tragic day for the Chase. That Sunday evening, a devastating fire struck causing severe interior and structural damage that would force the hotel to close indefinitely. In 2005, the property was acquired by Steve Olson, long time hotel and resort operator, to begin the redevelopment of the Chase.Eighty Six years after its original opening, the “New Chase Hotel’s” projected $30 million refurbishment, addition and renovation is nearing completion. The vision of Mr. Chase and the commitment of Hospitality that started years ago will once again open its doors in June of 2008.
TODAY
On June 23rd we anticipate the opening of Phase One of our project to be complete. This will include the 70 guest suites, 10 two and three bedroom fully equipped condotels, the 502 restaurant and bar, indoor swimming pool, beach and docking facilities. Our Meeting space, aveda concept spa, fitness room and bowling alley are projected to open fall of 2008.Chase on the lake is Minnesota’s finest Resort Hotel. Unlike most resort properties in Minnesota, The Chase offers a unique setting located in Downtown Walker, and on the shores of Leech Lake. We are the perfect location for your next trip north. We offer romantic getaways, meetings, events, weddings, family vacations & reunions. Participate in all your favorite lake activities while being just steps to all the quaint shops and activities of Walker. We are an easy drive from Minneapolis/St Paul, Fargo and Duluth.
