Boating
Waterski or cruise the Leech Lake shoreline; any way you choose, explore hundreds of miles of undeveloped Leech Lake shoreline.
Sailing
Large or small craft, miles and miles of open water, and the many bays make Leech Lake perfect for sailing. Sailboats are available for rent and lessons are provided too! The Leech Lake Sailing Regatta is held every August.
Fishing
Leech Lake is nationally recognized as a world-class game fish lake, and regarded as a walleye factory. It is a favorite of anglers searching for trophy walleye, northern pike, bass, muskie and pan fish.

Minnesota Golf
The three outstanding Minnesota golf courses in the area offer everything from nine-hole par 3's to challenging championship courses. The Walker area golf courses are nestled within the Chippewa National Forest providing one of the most natural settings for golf available. Most courses open early in the spring and remailn open late into autumn’s peak leaf season.
Biking, Hiking, Cycling, In-Line Skating, Walking
Miles and miles of paved trails in a system that is one of the best in the nation...and the Walker/Leech Lake area is at its core. The Heartland Trail stretches from Walker to Park Rapids. The Paul Bunyan Trail takes visitors through Walker from Bemidji to Brainerd. Get out and take pleasure in the natural beauty that is the Leech Lake area on the Heartland and Paul Bunyan state trails on a beautiful Minnesota day!
Minnesota State Parks
Some of the state's most impressive parks, protected lands and recreation areas can be found in the Leech Lake Area. From Itasca State Park where the Mississippi begins, to the Chippewa National Forest with its large population of nesting bald eagles (the largest population of nesting bald eagles in the lower 48 states), to the Shingobee Recreation Area and its "Little Grand Canyon" you'll find adventure in all sizes and all attitudes all year 'round.
Hunting
The autumn months attract hunters from all over the Midwest in search of deer, duck and grouse. The Chase remailns open year ‘round to accommodate those in search of adventure anytime the urge to explore arises.
Snowmobiling
There are hundreds and hundreds of miles of groomed trails, open fields, negotiable forests, and frozen lakes available for Minnesota snowmobilers to explore. Numerous clubs and restaurants cater to riders, with parking and heated gear storage. The famous Heartland and Paul Bunyan Trails, two of the best in the state, seem to run forever.
Skiing
Experience the winter wonderland of the north woods. Miles of cross country skiing trails wind through spectacular forests and around the beautiful lakes in the area. Area hills are available for those boarders and skiers looking for a rush of excitement as they carve down a local hill.
Ice Fishing
Ice Fishing wasn't invented in the Leech Lake area just perfected here. All winter long you'll find opportunities to discover the fascination that is ice fishing. Rent a fish house by the day, weekend, or the week. All winter long, everything is biting...but freshwater perch is our specialty.
